10 Things to Do & See in Yosemite during Winter – No Hiking Required
If you’re visiting Yosemite National Park during the winter season, these are 10 activities and points of interest you can do in Yosemite Valley.
1. Tunnel View
One of Yosemite’s most iconic viewpoints. Tunnel View offers sights of El Capitan, Half Dome, Three Brothers, and Bridal Veil Falls. The parking-lot is small and can get very icy.
2. El Capitan
If you’re coming in from the South Entrance, after passing Tunnel View the next big sight will be El Capitan. There are several designated places to park on the side of the road to take in this magnificent sight.
3. Swinging Bridge
Swinging Bridge offers a peaceful stroll with beautiful views. Please note there are steps at each end of this bridge that may make it difficult for strollers and people utilizing wheelchairs. Hello from Bernardo and Crystal! You can see a glimpse of Upper Yosemite Falls and the Merced River behind us.
4. Yosemite Valley Chapel
Yosemite Valley Chapel is one of the oldest structures in the park. Across the stress you’ll catch a view of Upper Yosemite Falls! (not pictured)
5. Sentinel/Cook’s Meadow Loop
If you’re looking for a peaceful stroll on flat ground, Sentinel Meadow loop is a must. Here you can see a scenic view of Upper Yosemite Falls. Another beautiful sighting of Upper Yosemite Falls from Cook’s Meadow loop. Please make sure to stay on the trail and stay off the meadows!
6. Ice Skating at Curry Village
Ice Skating in Yosemite National Park during winter is truly a magical experience. You can reserve tickets online or in person. Closures can happen on short notice due to weather and need for repairs so make sure to check online or call ahead (209)372-8210.
7. Nature Center at Happy Isles
If you need to escape the cold air, check out the Nature Center at Happy Isles (close to Curry Village).
8. Yosemite Museum
You can learn about the heritage and culture of the Ahwahnechee people, the native inhabitants of YNP. On Select dates you may catch a live showing of native craftsmen turning obsidian rock into an arrowhead.
9. Sentinel Bridge
You’ll spot a lot of photographers on Sentinel Bridge to get that perfect reflection of Half Dome.
10. Valley View
Another popular spot for photographers is Valley View. Here you can spot El Capitan, Three Brothers, and Bridal Veil Falls reflecting off the Merced River.
